The Cowlitz Indian Tribe is seeking qualified and committed individuals to serve on the Cowlitz Tribal Foundation - Statewide Fund Board. Open to Enrolled Cowlitz Indian Tribe Members Only. The Statewide Fund supports charitable organizations serving communities throughout Washington and provides an opportunity for Board members to contribute to meaningful, community-centered philanthropy on behalf of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
Be at least 21 years of age;
Be an enrolled member of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe;
Being a Tribal Member in good standing
Board Member Responsibilities
- Attend and actively participate in scheduled Board meetings and work sessions;
- Review grant applications and funding requests thoughtfully and objectively;
- Complete Board assignments and grant-review responsibilities within established timelines;
- Maintain confidentiality and appropriately safeguard applicant, organizational, and Board information;
- Demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, and respectful communication;
- Work collaboratively with fellow Board members while respecting differing perspectives;
- Understand and uphold the purpose, values, and philanthropic responsibilities of the Cowlitz Tribal Foundation;
- Maintain sufficient computer and technology skills to review electronic materials and participate in the grant-review process; and
- Support strong Board governance while respecting the distinction between Board oversight and the day-to-day operational responsibilities of Foundation staff.
Board Expertise and Experience
No individual applicant is expected to possess all the skills or experience listed below. Expertise in these areas is valued but not required. The goal is for the Board, collectively, to represent a diverse range of skills, professional experience, community knowledge, and perspectives that strengthen its governance and philanthropic decision-making.
Ideally, the Board will possess knowledge or experience in areas such as:
- Nonprofit and philanthropic leadership;
- Community engagement and relationship-building;
- Grantmaking and charitable giving;
- Finance, budgeting, or financial oversight;
- Governance and Board service;
- Legal, regulatory, or compliance matters;
- Strategic planning and organizational leadership;
- Knowledge of Washington communities and nonprofit organizations;
- Tribal communities, culture, and government; and
- Health and human services, education, housing, food access, or other community-serving sectors.
Applicants are encouraged to bring their individual experiences, perspectives, community connections, and areas of expertise to the Board. A willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute meaningfully to the collective work of the Board is equally valued.
