RFP: Salmon Creek Reconnection Project

General Information:

The Cowlitz Indian Tribe (Tribe) secured funding through Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, (RCO) Salmon Recovery Funding Board (SRFB) to develop preliminary design documents to restore floodplain connectivity and improve fish passage to ponded water features and currently inaccessible spring fed tributaries along 2.2 miles of the Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area. This natural area was previously known as The Cedars on Salmon Creek golf course, and is located east of NE 142nd Avenue/SE Grace Avenue between the City of Battleground and Brush Prairie in Clark County, Washington. The newly acquired 113-acre Gordy Jolma Family Natural Area is owned and managed by Clark County Park and Lands Division (Clark County).  This new acquisition is immediately adjacent to the Salmon Morgan Creek Natural Area, bringing the total acreage of publicly owned natural area to approximately 194 acres.

About

The legacy of an ancient people in southwest Washington is rich with descendants who manage a growing portfolio of health, education, scientific research, housing, transportation, development, elder care, conservation and legal issues. The Cowlitz Tribe is a growing force in community building in what are now Clark, Cowlitz, Lewis and parts of Pierce, Skamania and Wahkiakum Counties, a vast territory occupied by numerous Cowlitz villages prior to non-Cowlitz exploration and seizure. Today, an elected Tribal Council is composed of professionals adept at managing multiple programs and projects.
