Hours: Monday through Friday variable hours
Salary Range: $15.00 
Closing Date:  July 2017 or open until filled

Position Summary: As an employee of the Cowlitz Indian Tribal Health Clinic staff team, the Childcare worker will work closely with all members of the Cowlitz Indian Tribal Health Clinic and administrative staff in the planning and providing high quality childcare services to Behavioral Health clients while they are on-site receiving services with small children. A courteous, professional attitude and appearance must be maintained. The position performs specific tasks and duties related to childcare, while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the Cowlitz Indian Tribal Health Clinic. This position is equally responsible for assuring confidential client information is maintained and in compliance with Federal HIPAA and Indian Health Service compliance standards. To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duties satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or ability required.

Essential Functions:               

Greet clients/patients/children upon their arrival

Prepare playroom for children's arrival

Verify toys are facilitated, safe and sanitized, and windows are clean

Maintain an organized, healthy and safe learning environment for children

Maintain and process childcare paperwork

Work with Mental Health and Chemical Dependency clinicians to coordinate daily/weekly childcare needs and expectations.

Assign identification bracelets or badges to parents and children

Prepare food/snacks

Provide positive guidance to children and demonstrate clear limits and expectations according to developmentally appropriate practices

Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion

Demonstrate knowledge of age-appropriate cognitive, emotional, and physical growth and development of the children in the ages served

Troubleshoot problems that arise and provide solution based ideas for problem solving

Comply with all Cowlitz Tribal Health-Seattle safety guidelines and standards

Perform CPR/First Aid, when needed

Gain knowledge of all CIT HHS programs and basic knowledge of tribes in and around WA and be able to effectively communicate knowledge to client/patient and staff 

Maintain overall appearance of childcare area; to include straightening reading materials, toys, craft supplies and chairs

Receive children from patient/parent and return children to appropriate parent

Participates as directed in staff meetings and other meetings

Provide program support to all HHS programs, located in the office, as

assigned by Supervisor and/or Clinic Director or their designee

Attend training as relevant to staff development plans, maintain current certification for First Aid, CPR, Food Handler’s Permit, and comply with CPS reporting requirements for child abuse and neglect

Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation

Minimum Job Qualifications:

Possess high school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Minimum 18 years of age

One year of experience in an early childhood program or childcare desirable

Dependable transportation

Possess a valid driver’s license

Knowledge of childhood development behaviors

Maintain current CPR/first aid certification

Must pass criminal background check and drug screen

Positive interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively both individually and as a team member with people from diverse cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds including children, parents, staff and the general public.

Knowledge of effective listening and communication techniques, and conflict resolution

Flexibility in addressing unexpected work and implementing decisions about work priority

Ability to maintain professional, ethical, and confidential boundaries with families, children and staff

Dependable, with a good attendance record

Classes in childhood development and parenting
